cross curricular biodiversity workshops in schools

There are a number of predesigned workshops to chose from or we can design a workshop to meet your current curriculum focus or special school requirements. Contact me to discuss your workshop.

Environmental Science Art Workshop

Observing and recording the living things in nature is a thoughtful and meaningful way to gain an understanding of whole environmental systems. In the Environmental Science Art Workshops students go out into nature to undertake a biodiversity survey. IN the classroom we work together to paint all the plants and animals of that particular place collaboratively creating a biodiversity artwork that is a thing of pride and can be used as a learning tool for the wider school community. Contact me to discuss a workshop for your school. info@angelarossen.com

WORKSHOPS TO SUIT YOUR SCHOOL

Biodiversity cross curricular incursions and excursions bring the biological sciences to life using Art, Science and digital methodologies in the field and classroom. Students observe and record biota to gain a deeper understanding of whole system ecology. Click here for downloadable PDF with eight school incursions. See below for more info.

Custom Designed workshops to suit you

A range of workshops can be custom designed to suit schools particular needs and can take place in the classroom, on the school site or at nearby parks and reserves.

Workshops are designed to grow curiosity and connect students with nature and the study of biology in such a way that they will want to continue to make their own discoveries. The Cross Curricular Sustainability Priorities in the West Australian Curriculum are embedded in all workshop activities.

Students are introduced to the scientific methodology of biodiversity surveys to record baseline data, and why monitoring for change is important. Students also gain skills in individual and collaborative observational drawing and painting. Workshops give students an understanding of whole system ecology, plant and animal zonation, adaptions and feeding relationships. These workshops also provide a forum to contextualise their place in nature and their responsibilities to the natural world.

Nature discovery projects with whole school communities involving families and the wider community are community building as well as educational and fun. Have a look at this whole school community Wetlands Project. https://vimeo.com/901093901

Teacher Professional Learning presentations and sessions are also offered.
